01

Tax on Your Salary

Salary tax is based on your annual taxable income. The amount you pay depends on how much you earn during the tax year.

02

Progressive Tax System

03

For most salaried employees, the employer calculates the expected yearly tax and deducts an appropriate amount from monthly salary.

04

Tax-Free Income Level

Under the salary tax slabs used for Tax Year 2026-27, annual income up to Rs 600,000 is taxed at 0%.

Simple rule: Your entire salary is not taxed at the highest rate. Only the portion that falls inside a particular tax slab is taxed at that slab's rate.
